Die TV-Landschaft verändert sich gerade ordentlich schnell, auch wenn Hubert das bezweifelt, und ich gehe mal davon aus, dass in Deutschland wieder einiges verpennt wird, alles andere würde mich wundern. Die Kazaa- und Skype-Gründer Janus Friis und Niklas Zennstrom haben das Venice Project gestartet, jedenfalls heisst der P2P-basierte Dienst so in der Betaphase. Was Venice machen wird? Nun ja, da wird gerade viel versprochen:
It’s simple, really – we are trying to bring together the best of TV with the best of the Internet.
Bei Om Malik im Interview wird dann noch ein wenig mehr verraten:
What we have done is created a streaming P2P platform for television. This is a platform, which is good for content owners, for advertisers and of course the viewers. Since there are no borders on the Internet, this is a global platform. Sometimes we think content owners have legal reasons to restrict content locally and the technology allows them to do that. [...] We are building an ad-based system, and it is close to the television model. We will do revenue share with the content providers. With our system, people can be targeted with the right kind of ads. We are respecting the copyrights.
Das klingt durchaus interessant. Ich bezweifle nur, dass derzeit P2P so geeignet ist für Video. Die Upstreams sind immer noch recht schmal und mit ordentlicher Videoqualität wird man zwar seinen Upstream vollpusten, aber dennoch recht lange brauchen, um das Material zu übertragen. Ganz davon ab werden natürlich die Provider nicht von der Saturierung der DSL-Leitungen angetan sein, aber das wird deren Problem sein.
Mir würde ja für den Anfang schon ein netter Wrapper für Bittorrent und tvRSS reichen, denn mir ist es auch mit Anleitung zu umständlich. Das ist sicherlich der interessanteste Punkt: es muß quietsch-einfach sein. Der Satz von Janus Friis “People like the freedom of choice and like freedom from choice.” fasst es ganz prima zusammen. Die Berieselung muß möglich sein, aber so wie der User es will. Dem User wird es auch egal sein, ob der Video-Content per P2P kommt oder von einer Plattform gestreamt wird, solange er es ohne viel Tüdelüt auf der Glotze ansehen kann.
