When I started using the Internet

It was in spring 1995, when I just applied for a scholarship for a year abroad. I needed to research what US universities had to offer to fill out my application forms accordingly.

Back then, I had to take my bike and ride up a long and widing road up to a hilltop where the university's computer research labs where located, the only way for me to access the net. First applications I used where Eudora and Mozilla on a Macintosh.

Nu, das war bei mir u00c3u00a4hnlich. Im Keller des Rechnungszentrums der Uni Lu00c3u00bcneburg stand ein altersschwacher Mac mit einer Modemleitung zur Fh, die wiederum eine Internetanbindung hatten. Ehrlich, wir wussten nicht recht, was wir da taten, als wir telnet://xyz oder das legendu00c3u00a4re gopher://xyz eingaben und sich elend langsam Dateien vom Ende der Welt vor uns materialisierten.

Ein Erweckungserlebnis.
